The mythical origins of the modern word “corduroy” can be traced to the French “corde-du-roi”, meaning “cord of the king”. And although, in reality, the material originated as an industrial workwear fabric, we prefer the more regal connotation. While most commercially-available corduroys — even the more expensive examples — feel stiff and starchy, we developed a much more luxurious, velvety variety: Italian wide-wale.
