WARM & WONDERFUL SUMMER ’22

WARM & WONDERFUL SUMMER ’22

Our friends at Warm & Wonderful - the legendary British label behind Princess Diana’s famous sheep sweater - have launched a new leisurewear-inspired collection for Summer ’22The capsule marks the first significant expansion of the brand’s identity in over forty years, and takes cues from Diana’s “off-duty” style: namely, her love of crewneck sweatshirts and baseball caps.

Warm & Wonderful was started in 1979 by friends Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, first operating out of their bedrooms before moving to a market stall in West London’s Covent Garden. The brand was built on their shared love of knitting, and their very first design proved to be their most enduringly popular: the iconic “Black Sheep” pattern, featuring a single black sheep amongst rows of white ones. “We always knit things we would like to wear ourselves,” explains Joanna; Sally adds, “The sheep jumper just seemed ironic, to have a sheep motif on a wool sweater.” The design proved to be immensely popular with the “Sloane Rangers” - a group of young and trendy patrons of Sloane Square’s numerous boutiques - and soon the pair had trouble keeping up with orders. Then, in 1982, Lady Diana Spencer was photographed wearing a bright red “Black Sheep” jumper to a polo match, changing Warm & Wonderful’s world forever.

Over the following decades, this association with Diana came to define the brand; the inclusion of one of Warm & Wonderful’s red Sheep Sweaters in the Victoria & Albert Museum’s permanent collection further cemented its status as a hallmark of British design.

“THE NEW COLLECTION MARKS THE FIRST SIGNIFICANT EXPANSION OF THE BRAND’S IDENTITY IN OVER FORTY YEARS, AND TAKES CUES FROM DIANA’S ‘OFF-DUTY’ STYLE.”

Rowing Blazers founder and Creative Director Jack Carlson helped re-launch Warm & Wonderful in 2021 with the aim of introducing the brand to a new generation. To that end, the Summer ’22 collection builds upon Warm & Wonderful’s legacy - deep British roots, the iconic Sheep Sweater, and its close association with Diana - with a foray into elevated leisurewear inspired by the princess’s more casual looks. Featured is a jacquard-knit tee shirt based on the famous Sheep Sweater; the collection also includes heavyweight rugby shirts, French terry crewneck sweatshirts, tee shirts and cotton twill caps. Chenille sheep feature throughout, and each piece is made from 100% cotton.

The Summer ’22 campaign features Madelaine Petsch, and was shot on location in Malibu by Sam Dameshek.

The new collection also includes exclusive collaborations with heritage footwear brand Sperry and artisanal bag maker J. Stark both to be released later this summer. The Warm & Wonderful x Sperry capsule features Sperry Cloud CVO deck sneakers adorned with Warm & Wonderful’s famous all-over “Black Sheep” pattern in four classic colorways: Diana Red, Original Green, Bowie Blue and Primrose Hill Pink.

The Warm & Wonderful Summer ’22 collection is now available both here on our site and at warmandwonderful.com. To be notified when the Sperry and J. Stark capsules are released, subscribe to our email list here.
