Warm & Wonderful is a British luxury knitwear brand founded by friends Joanna Osborne and Sally Muir, who began selling their knitted jumpers out of a market stall in West London’s Covent Garden in 1979. Their flagship design — one black sheep amongst a flock of white ones — instantly became a global phenomenon when a young Lady Diana Spencer was photographed wearing it to a polo match in 1981. Beloved by individualists around the world, the popularity of the iconic “Black Sheep” design still endures today: it’s been enshrined in Britain’s Victoria & Albert Museum, and, in 2023, Diana’s original jumper was sold at auction by Sotheby’s for over $1.1 million USD. “After so many years,” say Sally and Joanna, “it’s lovely to see that this simple design is making people smile.”
This collaboration with Zurich-based Maurice de Mauriac marks Warm & Wonderful’s first foray into the watch world. The idea first struck siblings Massimo, Leonard and Masha Dreifuss when they purchased a Warm & Wonderful bucket hat for their father, Daniel, who founded the company in 1997; explains Masha, “Our late father was a true maverick, often viewed as an enfant terrible with his colourful persona. Sometimes, the symbol of the black sheep is misused; we appreciate it, and with this timepiece we are happy to pass it on to those who not only know the charm of the black sheep, but love it.”
