THE WINNIE-THE-POOH COLLECTION

THE WINNIE-THE-POOH COLLECTION

“I am a Bear of No Brain at All.”

Thus proclaims the thoughtful and Zen-like Winnie-the-Pooh, a beloved fixture in global culture since first created by author A. A. Milne and illustrator E. H. Shepherd in the early 1920s. Our new leisurewear-inspired Winnie-the-Pooh collection is a celebration of the beloved character’s very first book, Winnie-the-Pooh, wherein Christopher Robin, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo (most of whom were based on Milne’s own son and his stuffed animals) first enchanted the world with their adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood. The book has since been translated into over fifty languages, including a Latin version - Winnie Ille Pu - that remains as The New York Times’ only Latin-language bestseller. On January 1, 2022, the title entered the public domain - over 95 years after its original release in 1926.

Jack Carlson, creative director and founder of Rowing Blazers, explains: “Scholars like Alison Lurie have written about the universal appeal of A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh, especially among ‘social outsiders’, and about the Edenic quality of its setting, The Hundred Acre Wood. What I know is that I’ve always identified with Pooh’s kindness, creativity, and love for humming, poetry, and constant snacking.”

“WHAT I KNOW IS THAT I’VE ALWAYS IDENTIFIED WITH POOH’S KINDNESS, CREATIVITY, AND LOVE FOR HUMMING, POETRY, AND CONSTANT SNACKING.”

The capsule features elevated leisurewear adorned with iconic imagery from the original book, including heavyweight rugby jerseys, cotton mesh piqué polo shirts, a French terry loopback crewneck sweatshirt, a t-shirt and corduroy caps - all of which are made in Portugal from 100% organic cotton - and a pair of mesh gym shorts.

Winnie-the-Pooh has always loomed large in the Rowing Blazers universe, combining youthful wonder, sage wisdom, and a down-to-Earth appreciation for simplicity and directness. In addition to the new capsule, we also carry several vintage Winnie-the-Pooh-related books: the aforementioned Latin-language Winnie Ille Pu; 1985’s Pooh’s Workout Book (“Tone up your muscles and stride through The Forest like a Bear of Great Strength”); and Benjamin Hoff’s classics The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet.

The Winnie-the-Pooh collection is a celebration of A. A. Milne’s original book, its recent entry into the public domain, and the sense of grounded wonder embodied by its titular bear - and is available now.
