ROWING BLAZERS X SEIKO
We’ve once again teamed up with Seiko — this time, for a new collection of 5 Sports watches inspired by a vintage piece owned by Rowing Blazers creative director and founder Jack Carlson. Our first collaboration with the legendary Japanese watchmakers proved to be extremely popular, selling out within minutes of its release last year. Designed by Jack in partnership with Seiko and vintage watch expert Eric Wind of Wind Vintage, the new collection features four different references with colorful, vintage-inspired dials, each of which is limited to 888 numbered pieces.
“With our first Seiko collaboration last year, I was bowled over by the enthusiastic reception for our take on the iconic Seiko dive watch both within and beyond the watch community,” says Jack. “When Seiko asked us to do another, I was inspired by my own 1970 Seiko 6106-7107 70m Sport Diver, with a bright orange dial. I also really wanted to have both Japanese and English days of the week, and to do something slightly smaller than last time.”
“WHEN SEIKO ASKED US TO DO ANOTHER [COLLABORATION], I WAS INSPIRED BY MY OWN 1970 SEIKO 6106-7107 70M SPORT DIVER, WITH A BRIGHT ORANGE DIAL.”
Eric adds: “I first became aware of this smaller model with a smooth bezel two years ago. We quickly decided that this would be a great platform for the next Rowing Blazers x Seiko 5 Sports watch as we could focus on the dial and hands. We wanted to design a collection that reflected the spirit of Jack’s vintage 6106-7107, using colors that are sporty, fun, and complementary. We kept the now-iconic ‘candy cane’ second hand and ‘tempus fugit’ case back from the first Rowing Blazers x Seiko collaboration.”
The four Rowing Blazers x Seiko 5 Sports watches feature stainless steel bracelets; 40mm diameters; Rowing Blazers-monogrammed crowns; casebacks adorned with our Derry Bones “tempus fugit” motif; and day-and-date calendars with days that can be changed between English and Japanese. Each watch includes an additional, specially-designed nylon strap and comes in a special-edition, co-branded presentation box. The four references from this collection are SRPJ57 (orange dial with an additional green-and-white nylon strap); SRPJ59 (lime dial with an additional purple-and-black strap); SRPJ61 (azure dial with an additional crimson-and-yellow strap); and SRPJ63 (black dial with hour markers in the colors of our signature “croquet stripe” pattern and an additional black-and-croquet-stripe strap).
For the campaign, the watches were modeled by Randall Park (shot on location in NYC by Jared Kocka) and Aly & AJ (shot on the Atlantic City boardwalk by Stephen Ringer).
The Rowing Blazers x Seiko 5 Sports capsule is available now; in addition to here on our site, the watches can be found online at Seiko and Hodinkee, as well as at select retailers — including the new Rowing Blazers flagship in New York City.
