ROWING BLAZERS X LUKE EDWARD HALL

ROWING BLAZERS X LUKE EDWARD HALL

Our new collaboration with British artist and designer Luke Edward Hall is a colorful ode to the ancient world, combining Luke’s “irreverent romanticism” with Rowing Blazers Creative Director and founder Jack Carlson’s background as a classical field archaeologist and Latin teacher. Fittingly, a portion of all proceeds from the collection will benefit the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and World Language Advocacy efforts of the American Classical League’s National Committee for Latin and Greek.

Luke and Jack first met when Jack published Rowing Blazers, the eponymous book that led to the creation of the brand, in 2017; the pair immediately bonded over their shared interests, and eventually teamed up for one of Rowing Blazers’ earliest collaborative capsules the following year.

“I am extremely thrilled to be working with Rowing Blazers again after our initial collaboration,” says Luke. “This new collection expands upon our original offering with prints and embroideries made from new drawings — as well as new colourways. Once again, I took inspiration from the classical world, and I am delighted that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the National Committee for Latin and Greek for their inclusion projects, as organised by Jack. Having been fascinated by the stories, myths, art and architecture of Ancient Greece and Rome since childhood, I am very happy to be supporting an organisation that promotes the study of Latin and Greek.”

Jack adds: “I’m excited about this, because working with Luke is always so special — and also because we are helping students and schools access teaching in Greek and Latin. Studying Classics helped make me the person I am today, and it’s something I wish more people were able to study.”

The new capsule, which forms part of Rowing Blazers’ Fall/Winter ‘22 collection [link to collection PLP], includes heavyweight rugby shirts, French terry loopback crewnecks and sweatshorts, cotton twill and corduroy caps, woven neckties, hand-embroidered wire bullion goldwork-enhanced patches, organic cotton tees, and a special button-down shirt featuring an all-over print of Luke’s Roman Forum. In addition to the Forum, featured motifs include a Grecian vase, Tutankhamun’s golden mask, ruined columns (inscribed with “ET IN ARCADIA EGO”), the goddess Minerva, and the Lupercal (or she-wolf) who famously raised Romulus and Remus.

“I AM EXTREMELY THRILLED TO BE WORKING WITH ROWING BLAZERS AGAIN. [AND] HAVING BEEN FASCINATED BY THE STORIES, MYTHS, ART AND ARCHITECTURE OF ANCIENT GREECE AND ROME SINCE CHILDHOOD, I AM VERY HAPPY TO BE SUPPORTING AN ORGANISATION THAT PROMOTES THE STUDY OF GREEK AND LATIN.”

In addition to the official collection, we’re also releasing some new products that have been designed into Luke’s world, playing off of the capsule’s pinks, reds, purples, blues, greens, golds and chocolate browns: striped blazers and trousers for women and men, striped schoolboy scarves, and cable-knit V-neck cricket sweaters.

To celebrate the launch of the new collection – as well as Luke’s new book, A Kind of Magic — we’ll be hosting a special launch party and book-signing at our new flagship from 6:00pm-9:00pm tonight. The Rowing Blazers x Luke Edward Hall collection is available now, both here on our site and at our NYC flagship.
