ROWING BLAZERS X HUNTER
Iconic British heritage brand Hunter tapped us for a new collaboration, launching today: a colorful, irreverent take on the quintessential British rain boot. The campaign was shot in Marin by photographer Spencer Wells.
The partnership is a fitting one, as Rowing Blazers founder Jack Carlson spent many of his formative years split between both sides of the Atlantic, steeped in the worlds of classic British and American apparel. The new Rowing Blazers x Hunter capsule authentically blends the two with a wink; a signature of the Rowing Blazers world he’s created. The resulting collection includes men’s and women’s boots made from natural, vulcanized rubber, and features our signature Croquet Stripe and Zig Zag patterns.
“I’VE LOVED HUNTER SINCE I WAS A KID, AND I LOVE THE IDEA OF ADDING SOME COLOR AND PATTERN TO THE ICONIC RUBBER WELLY.”
“When I was at Oxford, the top university rowing crews had Hunter wellies in Oxford Blue, with the boat club emblem on the side. They were a major status symbol. I have a couple pairs, and they are among my most prized possessions,” Jack explains. “I’ve loved Hunter since I was a kid, and I love the idea of adding some color and pattern to the iconic rubber welly. The zig-zag in navy and red and the ‘croquet stripe’ are signatures of our brand: one subtle but fun and unexpected; the other crazy and colorful. They just make people smile.”
The capsule includes several styles: Women’s Original Short Rain Boots; Women’s Original Tall Rain Boots; Women’s Original Chelsea Boots; and Men’s Original Short Rain Boots.
Hunter’s globally-recognized Original Boots have been at the heart of the brand’s identity since their introduction in 1956; today, the handcrafted, natural rubber boots are still made from 28 hand-cut parts and assembled over three days on an aluminum last bespoke to Hunter before being vulcanized. The Women’s Original Chelsea Boots, in addition to elastic side gussets and nylon pull-tabs, feature a re-engineered fit, including a wider ankle and an increased curve in the heel and around the Achilles tendon. In addition to being certified vegan, all styles in the collection are waterproof and feature polyester lining, rubber outsoles with Hunter’s Original tread pattern, and natural vulcanized rubber construction with a matte finish.
Since its founding in 1856, Hunter has developed a reputation for balancing tradition and innovation in their celebrated products; the brand holds two Royal Warrants of Appointment to HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. “Our designs help us be in the moment,” according to Hunter, “actively present and confident in our pursuit, in order that we can fully immerse ourselves in the world around us, whatever the weather. Protection is at the heart of our brand. We are committed to responsibly producing products that perform well, look good and endure.”
“WE LOVE ROWING BLAZERS’ COLORFUL AND PLAYFUL TAKE ON THE CLASSICS — SOMETHING THAT WE ARE ALSO RECOGNIZED FOR AT HUNTER — AND THIS COLLABORATION CELEBRATES THE JOYFUL SPIRIT THAT OUR BRANDS SHARE.”
“It is wonderful to see our iconic styles and our British heritage reinterpreted with Rowing Blazers’ signature motifs,” says Hunter CEO Paolo Porta. “We love Rowing Blazers’ colorful and playful take on the classics — something that we are also recognized for at Hunter — and this collaboration celebrates the joyful spirit that our brands share.”
