Artemis Women's Sumak Kilim Loafers - Size 41
From our friends at Artemis Design Co.--This unique style has garnered a cult following, and its limited releases are collected by fans all over the world. Our Sumak Kilim shoes are handmade from one-of-a-kind Turkish carpets, which means that no two pairs will ever be alike. The Sumak Kilim Loafers pictured here are the actual pair that you will receive.
Leather sole with 3/4 inch heel. Handmade in Istanbul in a small, family-owned workshop, by cobblers whose families have practiced the craft for generations. Handwoven Sumak Kilim rug upper in wool and silk fibers. Sumak (also spelled Soumak, Soumakh, Sumac, and Soumac) kilims have a stronger weave and a more textural hand than other types of kilim carpets. They are known for their intricate designs that incorporate finely detailed symbols, figures, and representations of animals. The crisp and boldly contrasting blues, reds, and whites often featured in Sumak kilims make them a favorite among our community.
Please note that the Sumak textile is more structured than the Kilim or Oriental Carpet, which generally translates to a longer break-in period.
Our Women's Loafers run true to size. We only make full sizes, so if you wear a half size, order the next whole size down (for example, a US 8.5 should order a 38). Expect them to feel snug at first, but stretch to a cushy custom fit after time and wear. Our Women's Loafers tend to fit best on narrow to medium width feet, but do stretch beautifully width-wise to accommodate most widths--much like a fine leather shoe.

We believe that beautiful vintage Kilim textiles, made largely by women artists, deserve to be repurposed and preserved for admiration and enjoyment. Artemis makes beautiful things in a slow and careful way, using a treasured team of artisan suppliers and cobblers to ensure that their chain of production is hands-on, handmade, and brings as much pride as the products themselves.
