“We’re known for our fast-paced drops and collaborations, but for a long time, we’ve wanted to offer more bread-and-butter products — really well-made, versatile staples that speak for themselves and can be part of someone’s everyday ‘uniform’,” explains Rowing Blazers creative director and founder Jack Carlson. “Over the past five years, we’ve resurrected the rugby shirt, made it relevant again, and now we’re doing the same thing with our polos.”
Our collection of organic cotton piqué Icon Polos features a range of colorways adorned with embroidered motifs like Babar, Sonic the Hedgehog, Winnie-the-Pooh, and our house croquet stripe pattern. “When people think of polos, they think of golf-dad brands,” continues Jack. “I want to make them fun, and approachable, and inclusive. The bugs are fun little conversation starters, small details that invite people into the Rowing Blazers world.”
About Rowing Blazers x Sonic the Hedgehog: “When I was a kid, before I ever wanted to become an archaeologist or a clothing designer, I wanted to design video games,” says Jack. “As a little boy in London, I designed my own Sonic the Hedgehog game (with colored pencils and about a hundred pieces of paper). I sent my idea to SEGA headquarters, and they replied with an encouraging letter and a set of enamel Sonic the Hedgehog pins. I didn’t become a video game designer, but this is the next best thing. There have been a lot of Sonic clothing capsules created over the years, but I wanted to do something elevated, really beautifully-made, and kind of timeless in its aesthetic. I love Sonic, but if I’m going to wear something with Sonic on it, I’d like it to be really well-made — I’d like it to be something like a rugby, a piqué icon polo, an intarsia sweater. Something a little unexpected.”
