Provenance

Known as "The flying Scotsman," Eric Liddell was an outstanding sprinter. Born to Scots missionaries in Tianjin, China, he was a devout Christian and famously pulled out of his best event, the 100m sprint, at the 1924 Olympic Games because it fell on a Sunday. He entered the 400m instead and won the Gold on July 11th, 1924, wearing the number 451.
