Provenance

Argentina played its first international rugby match in 1910 against a touring British Isles team, and the light blue and white striped jersey dates back to 1927. It was during their 1965 South Africa tour that the Argentinian rugby team gained its now-official nickname, "The Pumas." A South African journalist mistook the jaguar badge emblazoned on the team's jersey for a puma, and the name stuck. To this day, the Argentinian team is known as The Pumas, and their badge remains the jaguar.
