At once noble and tragic, enshrined in history and yet shrouded in myth, the lovable dodo — last seen around 1662 — represents Rowing Blazers’ winking, studious irreverence. The extinct, flightless bird has since come to represent obsolescence and ineffectuality, and has been featured in everything from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland to Hilaire Belloc’s Bad Child’s Book of Beasts (from 1896):
The Dodo used to walk around,
And take the sun and air.
The sun yet warms his native ground -
The Dodo is not there!
The voice which used to squawk and squeak
