Caravelle PVD stainless steel automatic watch, 1980sFoundwell vintage $395
A Caravelle PVD stainless steel screw back automatic watch. This highly unusual and funky watch is very appealing to the eye. The black case with polished bezel allows one of the most unusual watch dials from the period to shine. The metallic dial has a light blue chapter ring surrounding it, with large raised silvered and painted white markers really protruding from the dial. At the base of these are tiny round Tritium markers, all complete, and still bright under UV light. The wide baton dark grey and white outlined painted hands are also set with Tritium and match the markers perfectly in a light coffee colour, paired with a white center sweep hand. Moving back to the dial, this amazing, almost Escher type design, glows when light reflects off it, due to the metallic nature of the background, and almost appears to move. It is quite mesmerizing on the eye. The quick-set date at the 3 o'clock position has the day in white ad date in black, very in keeping with the dial, and is marked 'Caravelle Automatic' at the 9 o'clock position. Perhaps another intriguing design feature of the watch is the very rare rubber and steel wrapped band. It is made up almost like a spine and wraps around the wrist in a very eye-catching way. Overall this watch is extremely well designed, and is likely to be a great talking piece even amongst the watch connoisseur crowd. Curated by Foundwell.
